The guild decides what you may make
You start with a horseshoe. Reputation earned from finished work opens the cleaver, the spearhead, the axe, the dagger, and finally the longsword — nothing is handed over on the first evening.
Blacksmithing by colour
A blacksmith reads the heat by the colour of the steel. Work the bellows, strike inside the window, quench at the right moment — and the piece either sings or cracks.
One heat, three decisions
Hold the bellows and the bar climbs through dull red, cherry, orange, yellow. Every colour is a different metal, and only one band takes the hammer.
Each blow knocks the heat back down, so the last strike is always a gamble: swing on what is left, or spend a turn at the bellows and lose the moment.
Stop pumping and wait for the steel to fall to the quench band. Too hot and it warps, too cold and it never hardened at all.
A shop you come back to
You start with a horseshoe. Reputation earned from finished work opens the cleaver, the spearhead, the axe, the dagger, and finally the longsword — nothing is handed over on the first evening.
Finishing a piece cuts a notch in a fourteen-day chain that pays in charcoal, oil and scale dust. The chain counts days you worked, not days you opened the app, and one missed day is pardoned.
Each finished item is graded from flawed to masterwork and kept on the rack with what it earned. Photograph a piece you are proud of and the picture stays with it.

Legal
Chanvil keeps everything on your device. There is no account, no server, and no analytics — nothing you do in the shop is transmitted anywhere.
Your forged pieces, coin, supplies, guild standing and the run of days at the fire are written to the app's own storage on your iPhone or iPad. They never leave the device. Deleting the app removes all of it, and there is no copy anywhere for us to return to you.
You may attach a photograph to a finished piece, taken with the camera or chosen from your photo library. The image is copied into the app's private folder on the device and shown only inside Chanvil. iOS asks for your permission the first time, and the app requests access only at the moment you tap to add a picture. If you use the save button, the image is written back to your own photo library at your request. Photographs are never uploaded.
No account, email address or name. No advertising identifier. No analytics, crash reporting or tracking of any kind. No third-party software development kits that collect data. Because nothing is collected, nothing is sold, shared or profiled, and there is no data to breach.
Chanvil does not require a network connection to play and does not send your data over one.
The app is suitable for general audiences and collects no personal data from anyone, including children.
If this policy ever changes, the revised text will be published on this page.
Questions, bug reports and requests go to one address, and a person reads them.
Email jordan.belford@traffgrunt.com and describe what happened. Replies usually come within a few working days.
Tell us the device and iOS version, what you were doing in the shop when it went wrong, and what you expected to happen instead. A screenshot of the screen you were on is worth several paragraphs.
Because everything is stored on the device and nothing is uploaded, progress cannot be restored after deleting the app or resetting the device. This is the direct trade for collecting nothing about you.
